When Smart Design is used, the application will automatically and intelligently crop a picture as it is dropped into a picture box.

The crop is determined by the content of the picture (i.e. human faces and other recognisable content), so reduces the likelihood that people’s faces will be cropped out (but ultimately is restricted by the shape of the picture and the box).

This makes it far less likely that the cropping of pictures will need to be changed, and therefore work can be done much more quickly.

Smart Design is a feature, powered by Ai technology, that is designed to help you by removing some of the creative decision making and time that it can take to create a finished photobook.

This feature can be used in two different ways – by choosing the Smart Design wizard option from the product selector, and/or by clicking the Smart Design button that is shown in place of the Autofill button in the main Designer window.

Whichever method is used, Smart Design will select the best pictures (based on a number of content and quality factors), then apply picture intelligence algorithms to find related events or ‘micro-stories’ within the pictures to be able to create a logical narrative for the book.

Smart Design then uses that information to decide how to group and order those pictures throughout the project, then selects appropriate page layouts – finding the best possible crop for each picture – and generates an entirely new project layout.

When Smart Design is used, the current layout in the project is completely replaced by the generated layout. The process can be cancelled or undone at any time.
